Superb Parrot

Polytelis swainsonii

This parrot has been an uncommon visitor to Canberra, which is on the south eastern edge of its natural range. However in recent years they have been appearing with greater regularity particularly in Belconnen.

Superb parrots are only present in Canberra from September to April with a clear peak in the summer, where family groups are seen feeding on eucalyptus blossom.

The Superb Parrot is one of eight species officially declared vulnerable in the ACT.  R=110. BR= 61
