Family Anatidae
While Black Swans and ducks are seldom observed in Canberra gardens, they are occasionally seen or heard flying over, and some of the species common to Canberra can be readily observed on Canberra’s lakes and waterways, including Black Swans (10 records), Australian Wood Ducks and Pacific Black Ducks. Others are recorded occasionally in the Garden Bird Survey and may sometimes be observed in places such as the Jerrabomberra Wetlands and sewage treatment ponds between Dairy Road and the Monaro Highway. These include such ducks as the introduced species, Mallards (4), as well as native species, Grey Teal (5), Chestnut Teal (3), Australian Shelduck (1), Australasian Shoveler (1), Musk Duck (1) and Hardhead (1).
