Twenty-one members and friends assembled in fine, still conditions to walk the circuit track around McQuoids Hill, Kambah, led by Sandra Henderson. Progress was slow as mixed flocks lured us off the track and up the slopes at various points. A Restless Flycatcher was heard from our starting point and soon located. This bird, or possibly a second one, seemed to follow us round the hill, affording very good views. Three Scarlet Robins posed for the photographers. Small flocks of Double-Barred Finches showed themselves at two sites, with larger numbers of Red-Browed Finches. Keen ears identified Speckled Warblers (2), and thornbills were present in substantial numbers (Yellow-rumped, Buff-rumped and Brown), along with many Weebills and Silvereyes, including the Tasmanian race. The dams provided some waterfowl in the form of Australasian Grebes and Pacific Black Duck. Two Black-Shouldered Kites, one an immature bird, were seen hunting, and later one came under attack from an irate Magpie-Lark. A pair of Wedge-Tailed Eagles made an appearance shortly before we dispersed. A total of 42 species was recorded.
