The COG Blitz is on again and there has never been a more important year for us to take part. After the ravages of bushfire and drought, how are the birds of the ACT faring? We have 14 years of previous blitz data, and this year’s results will set a benchmark against which to measure recovery.

Barbara Allan has decided to take a very well-earned rest from organising but will be assisting me in the background with the handover. The details are on the COG website, under the header ‘Observing and Reporting Birds’. The list of sites for 2020 will be updated shortly. We will not be able to access the Closed areas of Namadgi, but there are still many areas that have been burnt and are now open to the public. It is important we survey in these areas even if they aren’t teeming with birds. There are also many unburnt areas in Namadgi, Tidbinbilla and the lowlands.  Let me know, email, where you would like to survey, particularly if there is an area not on the list.
