Canberra Birds Monthly Meetings
Canberra Birds holds meetings at 7:30 pm on the second Wednesday of every month except December.
Meetings are always interesting – business is kept short and followed by one or two presentations on bird-related topics. COG is fortunate to attract a range of experts, enthusiasts and researchers to give these talks. Details of next month’s presentations are available beforehand in Gang-gang, or here on the website.
If you would like to check previous meeting presentations, look through the meetings archive here.
Non-members are welcome to attend meetings. Tea coffee and biscuits are available afterwards.
Meeting Location
Bugang Room
Denman Village Community Centre
5 Felstead Vista
Denman Prospect ACT
This is a light, spacious, modern event venue with a kitchen. There is plentiful parking, under lights, close to the door and with several disabled parking spots outside the door. The room is on the first floor, accessed by two flights of stairs or by a lift.
For people attending the meeting by public transport, the R10 bus provides a very good service around every 15 minutes from the ANU through Civic to the Denman Prospect shops with the bus stop opposite the venue. For example, a bus to there runs from 6:57 to 7:23 pm and return buses go at 9:05 or 9:35 pm arriving at the ANU at 9:31 and 10:01 pm, respectively.

There is plentiful parking, under lights, close to the door and with several disabled parking spots outside the door. The room is on the first floor, accessed by two flights of stairs or by a lift. To help guide you once there the Canberra Birds Sandwich Board will be outside the front door. For people attending the meeting by public transport, the R10 bus provides a very good service around every 15 minutes from the ANU through Civic to the Denman Prospect shops with the bus stop opposite the venue. For example, a bus runs to there from 6:57 to 7:23 pm and return buses at 9:05 or 9:35 pm arriving at the ANU at 9:31 and 10:01 pm, respectively. The meeting will begin with the AGM (for details see r Annual Reports and Administrative Papers – Canberra Birds) After the AGM there will be a single main speaker, Dr Lori Gould on “The Journey of Ponyo Snipe” This presentation will follow the journey of a tracked Latham’s Snipe from Canberra to Russia and back via Japan. Lori has been studying this species starting from her time as Program Manager, Woodlands and Wetlands Trust at the Jerrabomberra Wetlands NR (JWNR) from around 2015. Many COG/Canberra Birds members will be familiar with her work including those who have helped in some capacity such as trapping the Snipe. Lori will present an overview of the extensive research she has carried out, both at the JWNR and elsewhere, which culminated in this successful tracking. Over the past few years Lori has been putting this all together for her Ph D thesis, which she submitted earlier this year. So come and hear the fascinating story Lori has to tell. |
