Meeting time and place: 8:30am Trail Head – Molonglo Gorge Picnic Area/Car Park.
This is a 6km round trip walk along the Molonglo Gorge hiking trail (eBird Link). It’s a riverside woodland habitat. In addition to waterfowl and cormorants along the river, past highlights have included Yellow-faced Honeyeater, Rufous Whistler, Pallid Cuckoo, Olive-backed Oriole and a variety of raptors that soar in the skies above the river and gorge. Scenic views over the gorge, rapids and railway line are also a highlight.
This is a medium to high difficulty walk, as there are some sections that involve scrambles over boulders and there is a total elevation climb of about 100m. However, the majority of the climb is at the beginning (walking poles, optional).
Bring water, a hat, sunscreen and morning tea as there is a pleasant waterside picnic area at the top of the gorge. End time should be approximately 11:45am.
Most of the trail is single file, so numbers are limited to 16 people. Participants must register with Mark by email at markjtindale@yahoo.com.au by Thursday 12 September, providing your name and mobile number, and the name and mobile of an emergency contact.
