Australasian Ornithological Conference 2023 – apply for funding

to attend

Birdlife Australia and Birds New Zealand are co-hosting the 12th Australasian Ornithological Conference (AOC) in Brisbane/Meaanjin on 28–30 November 2023. The AOC is the primary conference for BirdLife Australia and is the largest biennial gathering of enthusiastic amateur and professional ornithologists from the region.

Canberra Birds is keen to support a suitably qualified person to attend this valuable conference.

Applications for funding are open to anyone, either in the Australian Capital Territory or outside it, whose participation in the AOC aligns with COG’s Objectives. This will include tertiary students as well as other people undertaking demonstrated research or projects that support our Objectives. These are:

·         to encourage interest in, and develop knowledge of, the birds of the Canberra region

·         to promote and co-ordinate the study of birds, and

·         to promote the conservation of native birds and their habitat.

In return for funding your attendance, COG will enjoy – and also expect –  you to give a presentation at one of our monthly meetings. This would cover what you gained from the Conference, though we will also be interested in an overview of your own research or project.

To apply, complete the attached application form and email it to Please include ‘AOC funding application’ in the subject field.

Applications close 10 August 2023. It is expected that the successful applicant will be notified by 24 August 2023.
