Phew! The rain stopped in time and we found an owl.
Thirteen members and friends turned out on a damp evening to search for a Powerful Owl.
We tried first along the Palarang Road without success although a couple of Boobook Owls excitedly replied to our taped calls. We then played calls at a number of sites along the Lowden Forest Park road without any replies. Eyeshine from a couple of distant Greater Gliders raised our hopes for a while. Eventually a very gruff voice boomed up at us from the gully below and soon a small Powerful Owl flew in and perched where everyone could get a clear view. This was a "lifer" for most people present and the very first owl for Julian (age 8). Special thanks must go to Anthony Overs who demonstrated how to search for owls and played the calls of many of the night birds for us.
